Tell members of Congress: Don't give Trump an audience—boycott the State of the Union!
Dear MoveOn member,
We all know Trump loves an audience—and that's exactly why members of Congress should refuse to validate his rhetoric and take a stand against his violent attacks on our communities by boycotting his State of the Union address later this month.
No lawmaker should uphold Trump's twisted version of the truth by attending his State of the Union on February 24—especially when we know his administration is in the business of telling brazen lies and seeding misinformation about everything from election results to the weather.1
Tell members of Congress: Don't give Trump the attention he can weaponize. Boycott the State of the Union and refuse to legitimize more lies to the American people!
Trump and his inner circle are dead set on rigging our government to serve and benefit themselves and the Epstein class. We've already seen them cheat working people, glorify Trump through national monuments, and disappear neighbors from the street.
And Trump's disapproval numbers are higher than ever, with more and more polls showing Americans turning against his unlawful power grabs.2
While individual members of Congress have refused to attend the State of the Union in the past, there has never been a collective boycott. Now is the time for elected leaders to demonstrate their unified dissent to Trump's unpopular, authoritarian agenda.
Our lawmakers in Congress represent the will of the people. They can—and must—demonstrate the people's rejection of Trump by refusing to bear witness to his State of the Union address. Add your name now!
American families are facing an uncertain job market and rising costs impacting everything from groceries to health care premiums.3 Meanwhile, Trump is talking about how to ensure the rich get richer—advocating for higher house prices and cozying up to tech billionaires.4,5 And as communities in cities like Minneapolis band together to protect each other from ICE's terrifying attacks, Trump continues to push for mass deportation raids.
But we know Trump won't tell these real stories of what's happening on the ground to American families—he'll only keep spreading misinformation. Demand members of Congress boycott Trump's State of the Union and refuse to legitimize more lies to the American people!
Boycotting the State of the Union would be a bold new move. At a time when nothing is normal, breaking with tradition and refusing to show up sends a clear message that lawmakers are ready to act, not just protest in silence or refuse to clap.
A president delivering a speech to an empty chamber, applauded only by loyalists, would say more than any sign or pin could.
When history looks back at Trump's authoritarian address to Congress, the record should reflect an empty room. Tell lawmakers to boycott Trump's State of the Union!
Thanks for all you do.
