Dear MoveOn member,
Convicted sex offender and Epstein co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell was called to testify before the House Oversight Committee—and she pleaded the Fifth in order to pressure Trump to grant her clemency.1
This is an affront to survivors everywhere and to the Americans who are demanding the truth about who conspired with Epstein in his abuse of young women and girls.
Maxwell knows exactly what she's doing. She was complicit in Epstein's crimes, and now she's withholding information in order to evade further accountability. Her attorney made it clear when he said that she'd be willing to speak and clear Trump of any wrongdoing if she was granted clemency.2
There's a word for that. It's called a bribe.
She met with the Department of Justice last year in an unusual meeting and then was immediately moved to a minimum-security prison afterward. She bragged to friends about being "much happier" in the new facility, while victims of her and Epstein's abuse called out the corruption.3
Abusers like Maxwell don't deserve any reward for telling the truth. Will you sign the petition now to demand that Ghislaine Maxwell not be pardoned?
After months of nonstop controversy related to Epstein and the cover-up of who was involved in his decades of abuse, the Department of Justice is finally releasing millions of pages of documents from the Epstein files, along with videos and images, for the public to view. But the Trump administration failed to fully redact victims' names and private information, putting them at risk and further violating their privacy—all while still covering up for those who were co-conspiring with Epstein in his crimes.
Every step of the way, the Trump administration has demonstrated whom it is there to protect: the wealthy and powerful few. Not survivors. Not children. Not everyday Americans.
Many powerful figures across the world have been linked to the Epstein files, and still, the Department of Justice claims that isn't enough to bring new charges. Instead, they've been entertaining Ghislaine Maxwell with the hopes of the public moving on from their failure to bring any justice to Epstein and Maxwell's victims. Will you sign the petition to oppose clemency for Maxwell?
Trump has been mentioned throughout the Epstein files, but he's been on the record saying that Americans need to "move on" from the issue, lashing out at anyone who brings up the files and the victims.4 He even yelled at a CNN reporter for "not smiling" after she asked about justice for the victims, claiming she is the "worst reporter."5
Trump's friendship with Epstein is well-documented, and so is their falling out. Former White House counsel Kathryn Ruemmler called Trump "so gross," and Epstein said he was "worse in real life and upclose."6 But he doesn't want the public to see what's in the Epstein files, because he wants to hide the truth and evade accountability—the way he's managed to do with his many other crimes. We need to keep the pressure up to make sure he doesn't grant Maxwell clemency in order to "clear his name." We shouldn't trust any word Maxwell says if it means she's getting favors from Trump.
Allowing a shortened sentence for Maxwell would be a travesty of justice. We have to make it clear that we will not let the rich and powerful get away with decades of harm. We will keep fighting to expose the truth and hold those who participated in and enabled Epstein's crimes responsible for their abuse. And that includes making sure Maxwell serves her full sentence.
Trump needs to know that if he considers pardoning Maxwell, he will face our overwhelming public outrage. Sign the petition NOW and then share it with three friends.
Thanks for all you do.
