Dear MoveOn member,
I work at MoveOn, and I have family in Iran.
Like so many generations before me, I've organized and worked so that people there can live with freedom and dignity—and choose their own government. Just as I reject authoritarianism here, I've always rejected it there.
The regime in Iran has massacred its own people. It has hurt so many. That history of suffering is exactly why I know that real freedom is never delivered by bombs—it's built by people, from the inside.
Trump doesn't care about people in Iran or about us here. He cares about his billionaire buddies who are going to profit from this horrific war. Trump's first instinct, at home and around the world, has always been violence.
And right now, that means a war that should never have started.
MoveOn is launching an emergency billboard campaign targeting members of Congress who voted for this war. If we raise the money this weekend, the billboards go up early next week. Will you rush a $9 donation right now to help us stop this war? (If you have saved your payment information with ActBlue, your donation will go straight through.)
It's easy to let wars become headlines. To forget that behind every number is someone who was loved, a home, a school, a cultural site—and a family and society that will never be the same.
The pathway to freedom does not begin with parents digging their children out of the rubble of a bombed school. Twenty years of war didn't deliver freedom to Afghanistan. And it won't here either.
I know that many of you reading this have also spent sleepless nights worrying about loved ones—whether they're living in Tehran, throughout the Middle East, or serving as U.S. service members being put needlessly in harm's way right now.
When asked about U.S. casualties in this war, Donald Trump said: "That's the way it is."1
That's the way it is?
Tell that to a mother. A father. A sister, a brother, an aunt, an uncle—to anyone who has lost someone they love in a war that should never have started.
If that makes your blood boil too, please rush a $9 donation to help us put these billboards up and turn up the heat on Congress. It could not be more urgent. (If you have saved your payment information with ActBlue, your donation will go straight through.)
Here's why I have hope.
Many of us marched against the war in Iraq—when the majority of Congress had already voted for it. It felt impossible. We did it anyway. Because of our protests, many members of Congress were defined by their support of the Iraq War and regretted it for the rest of their careers.
This war with Iran is historically unpopular.2 Trump's MAGA base is fracturing over it.3 People are with us now because of the success of our past anti-war work.
Because of the marches against the war in Iraq, fewer members of Congress have supported the war with Iran. It may not feel like much, but it's actually a sea change.
Republicans are already telling Trump they cannot support this unnecessary war.4 We are closer than we've ever been to stopping it—but only if we act.
We need to move fast. Innocent lives are on the line—and so are U.S. taxpayer dollars being squandered on a needless war at a moment when so much is already unaffordable for American families.
Will you rush a $9 donation right now to help us put hard-hitting billboards in front of the members of Congress who can still stop this war? (If you have saved your payment information with ActBlue, your donation will go straight through.)
In moments of horror like this, the MoveOn community doesn't back away. We lean in. We build the world we want our children to inherit.
Together, we can stop this war.
We must.
Thanks for all you do.
–Sara

Want to support MoveOn's work? Donald Trump's authoritarian takeover intensifies every day—but history shows that authoritarian regimes crumble when just 3.5% of people rise up together in sustained resistance. That's why MoveOn is helping mobilize millions, from massive No Kings protests to our nonstop work to get ICE out of our neighborhoods. This moment demands mass, disciplined, people-powered resistance, and MoveOn can reach, train, and organize at a scale unmatched in the progressive movement. Will you chip in to fuel this urgent and critical organizing?
