Every parent wants to see their child thrive and succeed. But the path to get there has gotten exponentially less clear with the precipitous rise in AI capabilities and as AI companies seem determined to tailor their tech to take over about as many careers as possible. So, what’s a parent (or aunt, uncle, friend, or grandparent) to do when they think about preparing kids for the future now?
Future Perfect correspondent Sigal Samuel recently tackled this question with her signature thoughtfulness and thoroughness. And her answer resonates far beyond making decisions about what school or extracurriculars to sign kids up for next year.
It has implications for all of us: how we can cultivate our own best and most human virtues and, perhaps most importantly, how we can advocate and create a future in which today’s youngest generations (or any of us, really) still have a meaningful and valuable place in the economy and society more broadly.
