Dear MoveOn member,
ICE is spending $38 billion to buy and convert warehouses across the country into detention camps to ramp up family detention and kidnapping our neighbors without due process.1 But communities are already fighting back and winning.
In Republican-led states like Tennessee, local organizing forced ICE to cancel their plans for a massive detention center that would have caged up to 16,000 people.2 Across the country, everyday people are rising up against ICE’s abuses and proving that we can stop them in their tracks.
Now it’s time to scale up that resistance nationwide.
On Saturday, April 25, we’re coming together nationwide for the Communities Not Cages National Day of Action—and we need event hosts like you to help us send a clear message: Our communities will not accept more ICE detentions.
Join the movement call this Tuesday, April 14 to learn the tactics and strategies needed to organize actions in your own community. Click here to RSVP!
Even if you don’t live near an existing or proposed warehouse site, we still need your solidarity and to mobilize with us. On Tuesday’s call, you will:
- Hear directly from organizers leading frontline fights against ICE warehouses
- Learn how to host a safe, effective visibility action in your community
- Get step-by-step support to register your event and plug into the April 25 national day of action
ICE is already detaining more than 70,000 people and planning to expand to cage over 100,000 of our immigrant neighbors with warehouse facilities that could cage up to 10,000 people each, often without adequate sanitation, health care, or access to legal counsel.3,4
We need visibility actions at courthouses, town halls, and public spaces across the country to resoundingly reject the construction of even more ICE warehouses in our communities.
April 25 is just the beginning, and Tuesday’s movement call will make sure you’re equipped with all the resources and strategy you need to be ready. Join us this Tuesday to be part of the growing, national push to stop ICE warehouse detention!
Thanks for all you do.
