Will you sign the petition demanding that Vanguard Charitable, Fidelity Charitable, and other Wall Street charities stop helping Trump’s attacks on the Southern Poverty Law Center?
Dear MoveOn member,
After the Trump Department of Justice opened a sham investigation into the Southern Poverty Law Center, one of the nation’s oldest civil rights organizations, accusing them of financial crimes, Fidelity and Vanguard announced their charity arms would no longer allow their donor-advised funds to make donations to the organization. Vanguard Charitable claims, “The organization has had allegations and/or charges brought against them for activities that may call into question their ability to carry out their tax-exempt charitable purpose.”1
Let’s be clear: The Southern Poverty Law Center is not under investigation by the IRS and still has its 501(c)(3) nonprofit status. There is no rationale or justification for this action besides complete capitulation to the Trump regime.
Now, more major financial institutions have joined in—with Goldman Sachs Gives, Charles Schwab's DAFgiving360, and Thrivent Charitable all refusing to allow donations from their donor-advised funds to go to SPLC.
That should alarm every one of us. This is about more than one nonprofit organization. It is about whether Black organizations will be allowed to organize to fight white supremacy without corporations and billionaires punishing them for it.
Now is the moment to show massive public outcry to demand these financial institutions reverse course. These are the institutions where millions of us have retirement savings, pension funds, union benefits, or IRA accounts—and it’s time they hear loud and clear that the public will not be silent as they work to support Trump’s agenda.
Show your support for the Southern Poverty Law Center and the critical work they do. Demand Fidelity Charitable, Vanguard Charitable, DAFgiving360, Goldman Sachs Gives, and Thrivent Charitable stop helping to carry out Trump’s attacks on the SPLC.
Let’s be clear about what is happening: Trump’s Justice Department targeted the SPLC because of its work exposing the white supremacist networks fueling the MAGA movement and agenda. In 2023, the SPLC released a report showing that many donor-advised funds, including Fidelity Charitable and Vanguard Charitable, were funneling millions of dollars in donations to right-wing extremist groups.2 Many of these groups are now cheering on the gutting of the Voting Rights Act and the rollback of Black political representation.
Civil rights organizations like the SPLC ensure that people can live, work, study, travel, and vote free from hatred and fear. So, of course, a president who describes white nationalists as “very fine people” and uses Christian nationalist dog whistles would have a problem with an organization like the SPLC, which has made a name for itself fighting the Ku Klux Klan and other white nationalist groups.3,4
Color Of Change has been exposing the corporations and charitable funds like Goldman Sachs Gives that are financing these far-right attacks for years. And now those same billionaire-backed institutions are testing whether they can isolate the groups fighting for racial justice one by one.
We cannot let them win.
Add your name to demand that Fidelity Charitable, Vanguard Charitable, Charles Schwab's DAFgiving360, Goldman Sachs Gives, and Thrivent Charitable reverse course and allow donations to the SPLC!
Thank you for all you do.
