It’s the end of the quarter, and because my job involves looking at the spreadsheets and budgets that keep this organization running, I felt the need to step into your email inbox and be completely honest with you about where we stand.
In the midst of a troubled economy, MoveOn is facing a serious fundraising shortfall.
It’s the worst moment to be behind on fundraising, because we are facing some of the greatest needs we have ever encountered.
The upcoming midterm elections will be the ultimate decider between handing Donald Trump two more years of unchecked authoritarian power, or building the wall of resistance necessary to stop it.
The stakes could not be higher. We need to be locking in our plans, hiring organizers, and scaling up our voter programs right now. But if we don't close this budget gap immediately, I may be forced to make the hard choice to scale back our programs and pull resources out of the field—just as we face one of the most important midterm elections in a generation.

Here is the hard truth from my desk: We cannot wait until a few weeks before the election to fund this fight.
Effective organizing doesn't happen overnight. It takes months to build the technology infrastructure, train local volunteer hosts, and launch the targeted, member-to-member contact programs that we know actually decide close races.
We’ve already laid out a massive, data-driven strategy to counter Trump’s agenda, elect populist champions who will fight to lower the cost of living and protect our communities.
Our $27 million election program built to engage those voters who skipped the 2024 election isn’t just about beating MAGA at the ballot box. It’s about winning lasting power to make life more affordable for working people.
We’re already seeing our plan work in places from California to New York. But a strategy is only as good as the budget backing it.
MoveOn doesn't take corporate money. We don’t have a handful of wealthy elite donors keeping the lights on. We rely on independent, grassroots support from members like you. That independence is our greatest strength, but it also means that when we face a shortfall like this, it is up to us to fix it—together.
