The Trump administration and its MAGA allies are waging a coordinated assault on Democratic voter turnout. This isn't just standard political maneuvering anymore—they are weaponizing federal law enforcement to try to make it harder to downright impossible to vote.
Just look at what has unfolded over the last few days:
- Armed FBI agents conducted a massive statewide sweep in Ohio, raiding the Cleveland offices of the Ohio Organizing Collaborative—a group dedicated to registering voters in Black and low-income communities. Agents spent hours interrogating staff, seizing laptops and cellphones, and even showing up at organizers' private homes with subpoenas.1
- The FBI just slapped a subpoena on America Votes, one of the largest national progressive voting networks in the country. It is a massive, far-reaching "fishing expedition" explicitly designed to intimidate civil rights organizers and freeze voter registration drives.2
- At the same time, the administration is threatening to stop mail-in voting as part of a shakedown to demand states hand over voter lists, meddling with mail-in ballot delivery systems to create absolute chaos, slow down the mail, and cast doubt on valid votes before they are even counted.3
Their actions fit a cold, calculated playbook: spread debunked conspiracy theories about voter fraud, use those lies to justify extraordinary executive overreach, and assert federal power to scare people away from the ballot box.
And it means the old political math is dead.
If we win a battleground district by 500 votes, or even 5,000 votes, Trump's weaponized Department of Justice and MAGA extremists will work overtime to try and overturn our win, from appealing the results in court to purging the rolls. A narrow victory is a dangerous victory. To protect our democracy, we need to win by a landslide.
